The Nest forms part of a collection of psychoanalytic short films by Em Cooper. Her other films include Confusion of Tongues, Laid Down and Flown. Further information and screening copies of each are available on request.

The Nest is a film snapped in two, both in narrative and in technique, it powerfully evokes the unconscious motives which drive a difficult family dynamic. Confusion of Tongues is a short film which addresses Sándor Ferenczi’s discussion of identification with the aggressor. Laid Down was Em Cooper’s first film, made in 2005: it is shot from the point of view of a newborn baby and it has since become almost a manifesto for her further work exploring subjectivity. Flown was Em’s second short film, a surreal portrait of a couple struggling to cope with the loss of an infant.
